!SOURCE: Jacket of Maureen's book entitled "The Giant Joshua" (Salt Lake City, Utah: Western Epics, c1976) indicates that Maureen was born in St. George, Utah. The Library of Congress gives her birth in 1904. E-mail from Veda Hale (vedahale at yahoo dot com), 11 May 2000, gives additional information about her ancestry. In e-mail dated 18 May 2000, Veda writes: "Maurine was born January 20, 1903. She hated to use her real birthday, because she wanted to look younger. Usually she threw away 10 years."
